FIFA Diploma in Football Medicine

Every year, FIFA organizes various medical courses and seminars during its competitions and in collaboration with its member associations to improve the level of football medicine and ensure optimal medical care for footballers around the world. The purpose of the courses is to inform those responsible for medicine about the latest in soccer-related injury treatment, the best injury prevention methods, and to convey knowledge regarding medical services in tournaments and their requirements.

FIFA instructor André Pedrinelli stated: "These FIFA initiatives are perfect for raising awareness of how our footballers should be cared for and treated.

There are many topics that are covered in this course, such as the role of the team doctor, the minimum requirements in stadiums in terms of medicine, injury prevention, pre-competition check-ups, concussions or the fight against doping. In various hands-on sessions, clinical examination techniques, case studies, and injury prevention programs are demonstrated, as well as injury assessment demonstrations and exercises.

Football emergency medicine—including how to respond to cardiac arrest (CPA)—is a vitally important topic. Participants learn techniques for evacuating injured players from the pitch and how to treat neck injuries and concussions. Training on PCR covers content aimed at recognizing the signs of this pathology and emergency care, as well as preventive measures through practical cardiopulmonary resuscitation exercises and the use of defibrillators.
